General
You do not need a referral to receive psychological services from Mapping Minds Psychology. Call or email us to make an appointment.
For Medicare rebates, you will need a valid referral from your GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. Please note that not all assessment sessions are covered under Medicare, and there will be out-of-pocket costs.

Only some sessions during the assessment process are covered by Medicare if you have a valid referral from your pediatrician, GP or psychiatrist. Please note that there will be out-of-pocket costs.
We will provide you with an appropriate invoice/receipt for services however we do not process rebates for you. Please refer directly to Medicare regarding rebates and to claim for services.
Self-referral (e.g., parents/carers)
Fees are not covered by Medicare.
Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral (most commonly a GP referral)
Mapping Minds Psychologists are fully registered with Medicare. You will be able to able to claim rebates for some sessions during the assessment process, if your GP, Pediatrician, or Psychiatrist refers you under a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP).
Current rebates are $89.65 (Psychologist). Most GP's will require you to make a long appointment to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan. Please contact your GP to discuss whether you and/or your child may be eligible.
Helping Children with Autism Initiative and Rebates referral
Medicare rebates for children who are seeking assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are available through a referral from your Pediatrician or Psychiatrist.
Medicare items for up to four Psychology assessment sessions and for 20 allied health services (in total) for eligible children up to the age of 15 (provided the treatment and management plan is in place before the age of 13). The current rebate is $89.65 (Psychology). Please discuss with your consultant physician to determine your eligibility.
Better Start Disability and Rebates referral
Medicare rebates for children who are seeking assessment for disability disorders are available through a referral from your Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. Medicare items for up to four Psychology assessment sessions for eligible children up to the age of 15 (provided the treatment and management plan is in place before the age of 13). The current rebate is $89.65 (Psychology). Please discuss with your consultant physician to determine your eligibility.
If you have private health insurance you may be able to claim a rebate. Rebates vary between different health funds and we advise you to check with your fund prior to making your appointment. Health funds generally pay a rebate on assessments which may be useful for you if you are aiming to have your child formally assessed for learning or disability issues.
We do not process rebates for you and advise you to refer directly to your Fund regarding rebates and claiming.
